Daybreak by the lake
A misty early morning brings about a mysterious, almost fairy-tale-like atmosphere. Herons floating above the water spread their wings majestically. There are an extraordinary harmony and peace in this image. A gentle heron epitomises grace and gentleness. It is one of few species to raise lightly without silting up.
Passion for nature
I remember witnessing these amazing birds wading along the coastline at dawn during a trip to Masuria. They were the epitome of dignity and elegance. Their smooth, majestic movements mesmerised me. The flock was shrouded in mist hovering over the marshlands, through which the rays of the rising sun shone. I wanted to capture this extraordinary moment including its mood and painterly quality. I framed the vigilance and delicacy that is so typical of the heron in a pastel drawing. The ombre colours are reminiscent of morning dew on the lakeside.
