Ceramic colour evolution

Łukasz Habiera, also known as Nawer, is a multidisciplinary artist. In his works, he combines abstraction with the precision of mathematical matrices. His unique style is recognisable from the very first glance. Nawer is a trailblazer of Graffuturism. The artist's works can be seen all over the world.

Illusive chaos, clashing colours, intermingling contrasts - this is your art in a nutshell. Where do you get your inspirations from and how do they influence your approach to creating works in such a modern spirit?

My primary inspirations come from the hustle and bustle of urban life, architecture and music. Architecture allows me to see space in a different way, it is where I started my creative adventure and it still influences my art today. Music, in turn, accompanies me throughout the creation, influencing my selection of colours and shapes to base my works on. Every sound corresponds to a colour - it is the outcome of my work. I also try to capture the apparent chaos I observe in the urban landscape and transform it into a cohesive composition.

Your artistic path is full of transformations. How important is it for you to translate your work into such different means of expression?

Thanks to my creative freedom, I can express myself freely across different areas. Each medium offers different possibilities and imposes limits, pushing me to adapt, experiment and grow - both as Łukasz Habiera and as Nawer. Limits and stepping out of one's comfort zone in creative work both encourage creativity. It can be said that an artist matures, changes through the journey of exploration. Today, I am looking for other spaces for expression. I find the variety of means of expression inspiring and motivating as I am always learning new things and can develop my skills and imagination.

As you mentioned, as a multidisciplinary artist, you experiment with different media.... What made you attracted to working with ceramics and what opportunities do you see in it to express your artistic vision?

Working with ceramics, gives me an opportunity to explore new forms of expression and to expand my artistic language; at the same time, to step out of my comfort zone again. It is a unique chance for me to bring art into everyday life. From streets to galleries, from galleries to homes. I believe that art should be accessible and present in every space; ceramic tiles are the perfect medium to achieve this goal. These types of designs make a significant impact on a living space, giving it a unique touch and creating an inspiring environment. I believe that surrounding ourselves with beautiful and artistic objects has a huge impact on our lives.

Cooperating with the Tubądzin team is a new artistic challenge for you. What aspects of working with ceramics did you find most interesting and what occured to be the most challenging?

The most exciting part was the opportunity to explore new media and techniques. Tile itself is a very intriguing yet tricky canvas. Turning designs into ceramics required an understanding of how different materials and manufacturing processes affect the final outcome of my work. My works base on colour, which in case of porcelain tiles is a very delicate tool due to their firing. I devoted a lot of time to convert colours and patterns, which in the digital world can be more flexible than the transferred solid forms. This was a challenge that required exceptional precision and accuracy and gave me an opportunity to develop in an area that was totally new to me.
